Kevin Costner's 'Horizon' Box Office: 'Yellowstone' Fans Absent

Costner's ambitious Western 'Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter One' barely broke out in its North American launch, but a sequel is coming out in August and a third is resuming production.

Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner, had the highest scripted series premiere of 2022 with 12.1 million viewers for its fifth season.

As noteworthy, the show witnessed double-digit rises in all categories, including a 52% increase among adults 18-34 for a cumulative rating of 5.6 among adults 18-49, or 7 million people.

Season five averaged 11.5 million views over seven days.

Where were all those millions of Yellowstone enthusiasts on June 28-30, when Costner's big-budget film Horizon:

An American Saga — Chapter One opened in nearly 4,000 North American theaters? Most people skipped Costner's film, which he co-wrote, directed, and starred in.

The $100 million event film launched to $11 million, a poor start. EntTelligence, a major entertainment research firm, estimates 1 million attendees.

This compared to 3.6 million for A Quiet Place: Day One and 5 million for Inside Out 2.
