Last month, the Celtics' roster shortage going into the summer made people pay attention to point guard JD Davison.
The third-year guard became an unrestricted free agent after the team didn't make him a qualifying offer
This made his future less clear. It was made public by Brad Stevens that he wants to bring the 2022 second-round pick back into the team after a good year with the Maine Celtics that almost led to a G-League title.
On Saturday night in Las Vegas, Davison showed that promise again.
He scored 19 points and had seven assists as the Celtics lost 119–114 to the Heat in the first game of the Summer League at Cox Pavilion.
Some people have doubts about Davison's offense in the NBA, but he played very well in the backcourt,
making 6 of 7 shots from the field and 3 of 3 from 3-point range to help Boston keep up with the Heat, who shot 61 percent from the field.
Just having faith in myself and seeing my gym work pay off," Davison said.
